VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – The Vigan Longganisa Festival kicks off Thursday, Jan. 15, Mayor Randy Singson announced.
The festival opens with the final canvassing of the popularity contest Reynas de Vigan 2026 Thursday night at Plaza Burgos.
Singson, together with the city’s consultative committees, finalized all festival preparations during a meeting at the Vigan Convention Center on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Discussions covered tourism arrangements, security measures, traffic management, contest mechanics, and class suspensions.
He said this year’s event is the grandest not only because of its extensive lineup of attractive and entertaining activities but also because it coincides with the silver anniversary of Vigan’s cityhood.
“Everything is right on track,” said Singson who expressed confidence that people will once again flock to this city. He added that efforts are underway to standardize the production of Vigan longganisa to ensure consistent quality among local producers.
Vigan became a city under Republic Act No. 8988 signed by President Joseph Estrada on Dec. 27, 2000 and celebrates its cityhood anniversary every Jan. 22 under Republic Act No. 9411 signed by President Gloria M. Arroyo on March 24, 2007, coinciding with the city’s annual fiesta.
