MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – This municipality is celebrating its town fiesta – highlighted by the Pagey Festival – from Jan. 17 to 26.
Cultural, entertainment, and community activities have been lined up to celebrate the event.
Festivities open on Jan. 17 with a Mass, Agew na Pasasalamat, and People’s Night Part 1.
On Jan. 18, a Senior Citizens’ Day and Educator’s Night will be held, followed by Agew na Dumaralos and another Educator’s Night on Jan.19.
Other events are Barangay Night on Jan. 20, Balikbayan Night on Jan. 21, and the much-anticipated Pagey Festival Street Dancing Competition on Jan. 22.
The Pagey Festival was initiated by Mayor Alfe Soriano, an agriculture advocate, to honor the town’s strong farming heritage.
Inspired by Malasiqui’s identity as an agricultural community, the festival highlights “pagey” or palay, symbolizing the hard work, resilience, and dedication of local farmers.
World Surf League
Meanwhile, the province of La Union is hosting the World Surf League from Jan. 10 to 26.
More than 170 surfers from 25 countries, including the host Philippines, are competing at Monaliza Point in Barangay Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union.
Among the competing Filipinos are longboarder Rogelio “Jay-R” Esquivel Jr. and 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Roger Casogay.
