The city government of Las Piñas formally launched Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+) at Miranda Compound, Barangay Zapote, on Jan. 12, marking the start of the annual nutrition assessment program across the city.
Las Piñas City Mayor April Aguilar said the activity is spearheaded by City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Julio P. Javier II, in partnership with the Barangay Nutrition Committee of Barangay Zapote, the Barangay Nutrition Action Officer, and dedicated Barangay Nutrition Workers (BNWs).
Aguilar said Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+) is a nationwide annual activity aimed at measuring the weight and height of children aged 0 to 59 months to determine their nutritional status.
She noted that the program helps identify children who are undernourished, overweight, or at risk of malnutrition, allowing health authorities to address nutrition-related concerns at the community level.
The mayor added that during the conduct of OPT+, children are also provided with essential health interventions, including Vitamin A capsules, Micronutrient Powder (MNP), and deworming tablets, to help support their overall growth and development.
Aguilar further said that data gathered from the OPT+ results will serve as a vital basis for the planning and implementation of health and nutrition programs, activities, and projects of the city government, ensuring that interventions are responsive to the actual needs of Las Piñero children.
She emphasized that addressing malnutrition and promoting a healthy lifestyle among children remain among the top priorities of the city government.
Residents are encouraged to cooperate and participate as Barangay Nutrition Workers conduct Operation Timbang Plus in their respective communities from January until March 2026, in support of building a healthier future for every young Las Piñero.
