BACOLOD CITY – This highly-urbanized city has allocated P14 million to purchase 10 electric patrol vehicles for the Bacolod City Police Office.
Mayor Greg Gasataya, who led the turnover of additional equipment and logistical assistance to the BCPO on Wednesday, Jan. 14, announced that the recipients of this project are the 10 police stations.
“These will be full electric vehicles assigned to 10 police stations, as a way of showing our support and appreciation for the accomplishments of the BCPO," said the mayor who noted that this will be the first time that Negros will have electric patrol cars.
Gasataya said that it's about time for the city to invest in green vehicles that are economical and environment friendly.
He added that this will reduce gasoline use that is a challenge for the police force to liquidate.
"They can maximize patrolling without the use of gas," Gasataya said, adding that the city has charging stations for electric vehicles.
He said they are eyeing to turn over these vehicles by the first quarter of this year. They are processing the necessary requirements and funds are already available.
"We've seen their efforts in maintaining peace and order in the city, and we will give all the support needed to further enhance their capabilities," Gasataya said.
Gasataya turned over of 36 computers, 34 printers, and 40,800 9mm bullets from the city government to the police. The BCPO thanked the city government for their sustained support.
