Aurora Gaming continued to roll and swept Team Spirit, 2-0, to advance to the knockout stage of the M7 World Championship at the XO Hall in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday, Jan. 15.
A thrilling comeback in the opening game set the tone for the Filipino representatives as they sustained the surge in the second game to pick up their third win — enough to not only qualify to the next round of the tournament but also erase the bitter taste of its swiss stage exit in the last edition.
With Team Spirit securing the 19th-minute Lord, Aurora Gaming had no other choice but to force the team to fight and get some trade with Edward “Edward” Dapadap and Jan “Domengkite” Delmundo going for a gutsy dive to the European team’s backline.
Edward on the Sora pick and Domengkite on the Harith took down three TS heroes while the other team fight had Kenneth “Yue” Tadeo on the Zetian and Jonard “Demonkite” Caranto on the Yi Sun Shin taking out the two other players to complete the wipeout.
With over 40 seconds on Team Spirit death timers, Aurora easily took down the Lord and went for the base push to complete the 14-13 come-from-behind win.
Demonkite starred the show for Aurora with a 7-2-3 line while Domengkite provided support with a 4-3-6 KDA.
Riding the momentum of the Game 1 comeback, Aurora showed no letup in second game as roamer Dylan “Light” Catipon executed the big plays using his Chip to pick off Team Spirit carry heroes.
Light’s top lane play where he caught the enemy team’s gold laner on his Shortcut ultimate allowed Aurora to once again score a wipeout to seize the victory, 18-12.
The Aurora playmaker finished with a 0-2-18 KDA while Domengkite dished out the damage from the distance with his Granger to finish with a 16-1-2 line.
