The City of Manila welcomed the courtesy visit of the ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF) Secretariat and the United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) in preparation for the Philippines’ role as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2026.
As part of the ASEAN Chairmanship, Manila will host the AGMF this year, a major gathering of governors and mayors from the capitals of ASEAN member states.
During the visit, city officials showcased some of Manila’s recent initiatives for local communities, including vertical housing projects for children and plans to expand green spaces, such as the proposed forest park at the Intramuros Golf Course, which impressed the visiting delegates.
City officials emphasized the value of sharing and benchmarking best practices with neighboring ASEAN cities, noting that unity in purpose can drive more achievements for the City of Manila.
“Through collaboration and learning from our ASEAN neighbors, we believe Manila can continue to grow and provide more opportunities for our residents,” Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said.
