PH Most Wanted: DILG offers P10M reward for arrest of 'armed and dangerous' Atong Ang
By Chito Chavez
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is offering P10 million for any information that could lead to the arrest of businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang who is the only accused still to be accounted for in “missing sabungeros” cases.
DILG Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic’’ Remulla also pointed out the need for policemen to expect the worst case in hunting down Ang whom he described as armed and dangerous.
“Any information leading to the arrest of, conclusive arrest of Atong Ang, will merit a P10 million reward. No questions asked,” said Remulla.
All of the 18 accused ordered arrested by a Laguna court for charges of kidnapping with homicide and kidnapping with serious illegal detention were already accounted for hours after the arrest warrant was issued except for Ang.
Ang is facing arrest for five counts of kidnapping with homicide and six counts of kidnapping with serious illegal detention.
The amount offered for Ang’s arrest is reasonable, according to Remulla, as he described the businessman as a dangerous man.
“We consider him armed and dangerous. I was criticized before by his lawyer for saying that but how do you treat someone who was accused of ordering the killing 100 people?” said Remulla.
“And he has 20 bodyguards who are always with him wherever he goes. Doesn’t it make him armed and dangerous?,” he stressed.
Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it sent more tracker teams and intelligence agents to locate Ang. Police forces were also mobilized to monitor all the exit points from the country following reports that Ang is still in the Philippines.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. also urged Ang to just surrender instead of playing hide and seek with the police.
For his part, Remulla said Ang will be taken to Camp Crame in Quezon City for booking procedures before he would be turned over to the court which issued the arrest warrants.
Most wanted
With the kind of cases Ang is facing, Remulla said the businessman is now considered as the country’s most wanted.
But Remulla said the PNP will do everything to arrest Ang despite his wealth and influence.
“He is very rich. He has a lot of money so he could buy an island, get a house in a mountain. But it is very difficult to fight the Philippine government, we will find him,” said Remulla.
But despite the aggressive effort to locate Ang, Remulla assured that an extra-judicial killing is never an option.
“The PNP has no EJK plan. Our personnel on the ground will just exercise caution so that they will not be harmed in getting Atong Ang,” he said.
