The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, January 14, welcomed the results of a recent Tangere survey, describing the findings as an important reflection of public sentiment and a guide for improving ongoing education reforms.
In an official statement released by Chief Media Relations Officer Dennis E. Legaspi, DepEd said the survey serves as a reminder that while progress has been made under the leadership of President Marcos significant work remains to strengthen the country’s education system.
“Malugod naming tinatanggap ang resulta ng survey ng Tangere (We warmly welcome the results of the Tangere survey),” DepEd said.
“Ito ay mahalagang salamin ng saloobin ng sambayanang Pilipino at paalala na bagama’t may mga hakbang na tayong naisakatuparan sa patnubay ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., marami pa ring dapat pagbutihin (This is an important reflection of the sentiments of the Filipino people and a reminder that, although we have already taken steps under the guidance of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., much still needs to be improved),” he added.
DepEd emphasized that the survey results reflect the collective efforts of its workforce, which includes more than one million personnel nationwide, among them nearly 900,000 teachers who serve learners across the country daily.
“Ang mga resultang ito ay bunga ng sama-samang pagsisikap ng mahigit isang milyong kawani ng DepEd, kabilang ang halos 900,000 guro sa buong bansa, na araw-araw na nagsisilbi sa ating mga mag-aaral (These results are the product of the collective efforts of more than one million DepEd personnel, including nearly 900,000 teachers across the country who serve our learners every day),” DepEd said.
According to DepEd, data from the Tangere survey will be used as a reference in refining education reforms and strengthening programs aimed at improving both teacher welfare and student learning outcomes.
“Para sa amin sa DepEd, ang mga numerong ito ay nagsisilbing gabay upang higit pang pagbutihin ang mga reporma at programa para sa kapakinabangan ng mga guro at mag-aaral (For us in DepEd, these figures serve as a guide to further improve reforms and programs for the benefit of teachers and learners),” DepEd said.
The department also reaffirmed its commitment to remain open to criticism and responsive to public concerns, stressing that feedback plays a vital role in ensuring effective governance in the education sector.
“Mananatili kaming bukas sa puna at matatag sa aming tungkulin (We will remain open to feedback and steadfast in our duty),” DepEd added.
The Tangere survey results come amid ongoing government efforts to address long-standing challenges in basic education, including learning recovery, teacher support, and system-wide reforms.
Based on the survey, only two Cabinet members of President Marcos secured majority approval in Tangere’s latest public opinion poll, with Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian once again ranking as the administration’s strongest performers.
The non-commissioned poll, conducted from January 7 to 10, 2026, found Angara earning a 52.7 percent satisfaction rating and a 54.0 percent trust rating, while Gatchalian posted 50.9 percent satisfaction and 49.0 percent trust. All other Cabinet secretaries fell short of majority approval in both measures.
According to Tangere, the favorable ratings for Angara and Gatchalian were largely driven by respondents from socio-economic classes D and E, a trend consistent with previous survey periods.
