The Manila Police District (MPD) recorded a drop in crime incidents in the capital city in 2025 based on records from January to December, compared to the same period in 2024.
According to MPD District Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Abad, the District Investigation and Detective Management Division (DIDMD) of the police force recorded 988 incidents in 2025 which is a 10.83 percent decline from 1,108 incidents in 2024.
"Data further revealed that most major crime categories posted significant reductions, led by rape, which recorded the highest decrease at 20.68 percent-dropping from 203 cases in 2024 to 161 in 2025. This was followed by murder, which declined by 47.5 percent, from 80 to 42 incidents," Abad said.
"Theft cases decreased by 8.80 percent, from 420 to 383, while motorcycle carnapping dropped by 12.64 percent, from 87 to 76 incidents. Motor vehicle carnapping cases also went down by 40 percent, declining from 20 to 12, and robbery fell by 1.91 percent, from 157 to 154 cases," he added.
Meanwhile, special complex crimes saw a 33.33 percent decrease, from three cases in 2024 to two cases in 2025.
Abad attributed the decrease in criminality in Manila to the MPD's effectiveness and commitment to the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Focused Agenda, coupled with the collective efforts of police stations and units within the city.
“It is clear from these numbers that our efforts are effective. This is the result of a stronger police presence, faster response times, and improved police-community relations, these were achieved through consistent implementation of crime prevention and law enforcement strategies on the ground,” the director said.
"The MPD assures the public that it will continue building on these gains and remains unwavering in its commitment to protect lives, uphold the law, and serving the Manileños with integrity and dedication," he noted.
