Police arrested a 31-year-old man who was found in possession of a firearm, a hand grenade, and about 500 bank cards during the conduct of “Oplan Sita” in Pasay City on Jan. 11.
Pasay City Police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the suspect as Arvin, a resident of Barangay 24, F.B. Harrison Street, Pasay City. He was apprehended at around 2:00 a.m. on F.B. Harrison Street in Barangay 3.
De Sesto said officers from Pasay City Police Substation I were conducting “Oplan Sita” when they flagged down the suspect, who was driving a Toyota Wigo with plate number NHI-4896.
During the inspection, Staff Sgt. Marvin Kieth Candelario used a flashlight and noticed a .380-caliber firearm with a magazine inside the vehicle.
Further examination led to the recovery of a hand grenade located on the right front seat, two sets of plate numbers, and about 500 ATM, debit, and credit cards believed to be connected to fraudulent or unauthorized financial transactions.
Police operatives immediately requested the assistance of the Pasay City Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team to properly handle and examine the hand grenade.
The suspect was ordered to alight from the vehicle and was asked to present legal documents for the firearm and explosive, but he failed to do so.
Arvin was brought to the Pasay City Police custodial facility and was charged for violations of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition) and Republic Act 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives).
Police said investigations are ongoing regarding the recovered vehicle, plate numbers, and the 500 ATM, debit, and credit cards found in the suspect’s possession.
