Ex-NewJeans member Danielle tears up in first live stream since contract termination
Danielle teared up as she held her first live stream on Jan. 12 after she was ousted from K-pop girl group NewJeans last December.
Last Dec. 29, NewJeans’ agency ADOR announced that it had terminated its exclusive contract with Danielle.
“Following the final court ruling confirming the validity of the exclusive contracts, ADOR has held extensive discussions with Minji, Hanni, and Danielle, as well as the families of each member. Regarding Danielle, ADOR has determined that it would no longer be feasible for her to continue as a member of NewJeans and as an artist under ADOR,” the agency said.
It added, “Accordingly, the company has notified her today of the termination of her exclusive contract. In addition, ADOR plans to pursue legal action against one family member of Danielle and ADOR’s former President, Min Hee-jin, who bears significant responsibility for the circumstances that led to the recent dispute and for causing the breakaway of NewJeans, as well as the delay in their return.”
During the live stream, Danielle said, “I’m already tearing up,” according to SBS News.
She added, “Showing up like this feels unfamiliar, and it makes my heart go quiet. Saying ‘thanks for waiting’ isn’t enough. You stayed right where you were. Your messages were so warm, and that warmth stayed with me.”
Danielle said in English, “It's been a very long time and I carried this with me. Sometimes late at night, I would read the letters and the messages that you sent me. Not loudly but just enough. My heart grew quieter.”
She told fans, “Even then, there was light and you were there” remembering “our very first stage, silence before the music.”
According to Danielle, in the past days, “I traveled, I listened, I learned how to stay still.”
“I hope one day you will be able to read the letter that I wrote for you. I guess some things are more, become more beautiful. And when the time comes, I will update you all about what's happening, about the lawsuit and about all the things that you are all curious about,” she said.
Danielle said she fought to stay in NewJeans.
“I fought to the very end to be together with the members and that truth stays with me,” she said.
She said, “Bunnies this is not the end, it's a beginning. Thank you. Always. This is only the beginning,” she said.
ADOR filed a lawsuit seeking 43.1 billion won (about $29.25 million) in damages against Danielle, her family and Min Hee-jin, Korean media reported.
