Malacañang remains optimistic that majority of Filipinos continue to believe that guilty officials in the massive flood control scandal will be punished.
This, even the recent survey conducted by Pulse Asia showed that confidence in the punishment of officials involved in the flood control mess declined in the last quarter of 2025.
In the survey, conducted from Dec. 12 to 15 with 1,200 adult respondents, 59 percent of Filipinos said they expect guilty officials to face consequences. The figure was down significantly from 71 percent in the September 2025 survey.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said that the survey's result meant that majority of Filipinos believe in the capability of President Marcos.
"So majority pa rin po ang naniniwala sa kakayanan ng Pangulo (So, the majority still believe in the President’s capability)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Monday, Jan. 12.
"So ito po ay positibo dahil alam nila na ang dapat managot ay maaaring mabilanggo (So, this is positive because they know that those who are liable could be imprisoned)," Castro added.
The Palace official also underscored that "it cannot be denied that the President is taking action to curb corruption."
"Sabi nga natin, hindi lahat ng pagkakataon ang Pangulo ay mag-iimbestiga ng korapsyon sa kanyang panahon. Hindi ito nangyari sa nakaraang administrasyon (As we have said, it is not at every moment that a President investigates corruption during his term. This did not happen under the previous administration)," Castro reiterated.
"Ang sabi nga natin, kung hindi ito gagawin ng Pangulo ngayon, kailan pa? At kung hindi ang Pangulong Marcos ang gagawa nito, sino pa? Siya lang naman po ang may lakas ng loob na maapektuhan man po ang kanyang administrasyon, gagawin niya pa rin po ito para sa taumbayan (As we often say, if the President does not do this now, when will it happen? And if not President Marcos, who else? He is the only one with the courage to do this, even if it affects his own administration, he will still do it for the people)," Castro added.
While majority of Filipinos believe that guilty officials in the multi-billion flood control mess will be punished, the survey showed that 48 percent of respondents said they distrust Marcos' handling of the flood control anomalies, compared with 30 percent trust, while 22 percent were undecided.
