No Filipino affected in deadly protests in Iran — DFA

The Philippine Embassy in Tehran has reported no affected Filipino in the escalating deadly protests in the Islamic state.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), there are around 823 Filipinos in Iran, and the majority of them are permanent residents, being spouses or children of Iranian nationals.
“As of this writing, there have been no reports of any Filipino who have been affected in the protests in Iran,” DFA said on Monday evening, Jan. 12.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s government is facing nationwide protests that started on Dec. 28 when the country hit a record-high inflation, deepening the country’s economic crisis.
From small groups in the capital Tehran, the protests, which called for the end of the regime, spread across the country, especially in the poorest areas, prompting an internet shutdown and a deadly military response from the government.
As of Jan. 10, 2026, Iranian news media reported that at least 2,000 protesters were killed as security forces allegedly used ammunition to disperse the crowd.
“The Philippine Embassy in Tehran continues to remind Filipinos in Iran to stay alert and minimize their movements,” DFA said.
