Japanese firm Ubukata to build new export-oriented plant in Batangas

Japan-based Ubukata Philippine Electric Corp. has signed a registration agreement with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) for the establishment of an export-oriented manufacturing facility in Batangas.
The investment promotion agency (IPA) said PEZA Deputy Director General Anidelle Joy Alguso and Ubukata Philippine Electric Corp. president Shinnosuke Ubukata entered into the agreement on Jan. 7 for the latter’s entry as an ecozone export enterprise.
The registration means that the company’s manufacturing activity will result in the export of all its products, as provided under the Special Economic Zone Act.
Ubukata Philippine Electric is planning to build a manufacturing facility focusing on safety switches and other electrical control equipment.
The export markets for these products include China, Japan, South Korea, and the United States (US), as well as other countries in Europe and Southeast Asia.
Set to begin commercial operations in August, the facility will be located at First Philippine Industrial Park-Special Economic Zone in Santo Tomas City, Batangas.
Through its registration with PEZA, Ubukata Philippine Electric qualifies for fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, as well as streamlined business processes.
PEZA said the project supports the government’s strategy to attract high-value manufacturing activities that would integrate the country into global supply chains.
The IPA added that this also reflects a shared commitment between the Philippines and Japan to advance export-oriented and high-value manufacturing in the country.
Japanese investors were the leading source of foreign investment in the country’s ecozone system in 2025, amounting to ₱32.6 billion. In total, PEZA approved ₱260.89 billion in investment pledges last year.
PEZA is targeting ₱300 billion in investment approvals this year.
Last week, the agency announced its first approval of the year with the registration of Canada-based EDAC Philippines Inc. as an ecozone export enterprise.
The company is poised to build a manufacturing plant for the assembly of electronic connectors within Filinvest Innovation Park in New Clark City.
The facility is expected to start commercial operations in the first half of the year, generating at least 90 direct jobs.
