DIZON discussing the Aganan Flyover in Iloilo during a press conference on Monday.
ILOILO CITY – Secretary Vince Dizon assured that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will complete the construction of the unfinished P802-million flyover in Pavia town, Iloilo province.
“The Aganan Flyover sa Iloilo, tatapusin na rin natin this year (We will the Aganan Flyover in Iloilo this year),” said Dizon in a press conference on Monday, Jan. 12.
“’Yan ‘yung lumulubog na flyover at nakita mismo ng Pangulo at galit na galit (That is the sinking flyover and President Marcos saw it and he was very upset),” Dizon said, referring to the drive-by inspection by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during a visit to Iloilo last August.
The Aganan Flyover is one of the two controversial Iloilo flyovers lobbied by former Ilonggo Senate President Franklin M. Drilon.
The Aganan Flyover was initially constructed in July 2020 and work was stopped in September 2022 when the nearby Ungka Flyover showed structural problems.
An independent probe found out that the Aganan Flyover is not standing on stable soil. Jet grouting was implemented to stabilize the soil and be able to withstand the weight of the flyover.
Returning DPWH-6 Regional Director Al Fruto said last September that jet grouting and road widening works for the Aganan Flyover needs an additional P285 million.
When all works are finished, the cost of the Aganan Flyover will balloon to more than P1 billion.
