The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will repair all damaged segments of the Maharlika Highway this year to make travel along the country’s longest road from Luzon to Mindanao safer.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said Monday, Jan. 12, that roadworks are scheduled to begin within the first quarter of 2026.
He added that the agency is also finalizing designs for the C5 rehabilitation to improve connectivity and traffic flow in Metro Manila.
“This marks the first massive overhaul of the Maharlika Highway since its construction,” Dizon said, noting that the project will benefit millions of commuters and transporters.
He emphasized that the rehabilitation will proceed despite a lower budget allocation, highlighting the agency’s focus on maximizing results.
The Pan-Philippine Highway, also known as Maharlika Highway, serves as a vital national artery linking Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Its upgrade is expected to boost trade, commerce, and economic activity across all regions.
Alongside the C5 rehabilitation, the project aims to strengthen infrastructure efficiency and resilience, improve road safety, and enhance nationwide transport networks.
“There is no road, no highway more important than Maharlika Highway,” Dizon said, underlining the government’s commitment to modernizing critical infrastructure for the benefit of all Filipinos.
