Despite the absence of any low-pressure area (LPA), several weather systems will continue to bring rains over parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Jan. 11.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said no LPA is currently being monitored either inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but rainfall is still expected due to the shear line and the easterlies.
“Wala tayong mino-monitor na low-pressure area sa loob at labas ng Philippine Area of Responsibility, pero inaasahan pa natin na magiging maulan ang panahon, partikular na rito sa may silangang bahagi ng Northern at Central Luzon, dulot ng shear line (We are not monitoring any low-pressure area inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but rainy weather is still expected, particularly over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon, due to the shear line),” he said.
“Habang ang easterlies ay magpapaulan din, partikular na may silangang bahagi ng Southern Luzon; itong Bicol Region, kasama itong Eastern Visayas, hanggang sa may bahagi ng Caraga Region (Meanwhile, the easterlies will also bring rains, especially over the eastern part of Southern Luzon, particularly the Bicol Region, as well as Eastern Visayas, up to parts of the Caraga Region),” he added.
Badrina said that the northeast monsoon will continue to affect large portions of Luzon.
“Dulot naman ng hanging amihan or northeast monsoon, magkakaroon pa rin ng mahihinang pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon sa araw na ito (Because of the amihan or northeast monsoon, light rains will still be experienced over a large portion of Luzon today),” he said.
The weather specialist said generally fair weather is expected over other parts of the country, although localized thunderstorms may still occur.
“Sa iba pang bahagi ng ating bansa, dito sa Kabisayaan, Southern Luzon, at sa may area ng Mindanao, generally fair weather sa araw na ito. Posible pa rin ‘yung localized rain-showers and thunderstorms (In other parts of the country, such as the Visayas, Southern Luzon, and areas of Mindanao, generally fair weather is expected today, although localized rain showers and thunderstorms are still possible),” he added.
