BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Oriental mourned the death of a civilian and three policemen on Jan. 9 in the town of Sibulan.
They called for healing and unity and appealed to all residents of Sibulan and the province to remain calm and united.
"Let us support one another and work together to overcome the pain and division that such violence brings," it said in a statement shared on social media.
Negros Oriental Gov. Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria strongly denounced the senseless act of violence and stood in solidarity with the bereaved families, loved ones, and the entire Philippine National Police.
Sagarbarria honored Police Capt. Jose Edrohil Cimafranca, Sibulan police chief; and Police Senior Master Sgt. Tristan Chua and Police Patrolman Rey Albert Temblor.
"We honor their bravery, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to peace and public safety," he said, adding that their sacrifice will forever be remembered and will continue to inspire their collective resolve to serve and protect the people.
The provincial government said that the swift apprehension of the suspect, Police Staff Sgt. Bonifacio Saycon, demonstrates that no one is above the law.
Sagarbarria trusts that the judicial system will pursue this matter with utmost integrity and ensure that justice is served fairly and completely.
Sibulan Mayor Jose Abiera was deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless murder of the police officers.
"No words can fully ease the pain of such a loss, but my thoughts are with you during this time of profound grief," Abiera said.
"May the memory of these officers and innocent civilian be honored with respect and gratitude they deserve," he added.
