A man was bitten and strangled to death by an 11-foot python in Iloilo City early Sunday morning, Jan. 11.
The victim Julius died in a dike in Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao District.
Residents were awakened by a loud thud around 4:30 a.m. and found the snake wrapped around the victim.
Residents pounded the snake to free the victim and emergency responders declared the victim dead.
Police Capt. Val Cambel of the Mandurriao Police Station said residents surmised the victim did not see the python and might have stepped on the snake which then bit the man and strangled him.
Since the area was adjacent to Bolilao Creek, residents said that there are many python sightings during high tide.
It is the first time an individual was actually killed by a python in Iloilo City.
