Installation of new Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia archbishop Antonio set
SANTA MARIA, Ilocos Sur – The formal installation of the new archbishop of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia at the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption here will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Charles John Brown will preside over the canonical possession and installation rites of Most Reverend David William V. Antonio as the eighth archbishop of Nueva Segovia during a solemn eucharistic celebration.
Antonio was appointed by Pope Leo XIV on Nov. 4, succeeding retired Archbishop Marlo M. Peralta.
Previously the bishop of Ilagan, Antonio was born on Dec. 29, 1963, in Nagtupacan, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur. He was ordained priest on Dec. 1, 1988, for the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.
He studied philosophy at the San Pablo Seminary in Baguio City and theology at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City. He earned a doctorate in theology from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.
After serving as a professor at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology, he was appointed dean of studies in 1993 and later became rector of the same seminary.
In 2005, he was named parish priest of Saint Lucia Parish in Ilocos Sur and subsequently served as vicar general of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.
In honor of his installation, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur suspended classes on all levels in public and private schools, as well as work in public offices, through an executive order issued by Gov. Jeremias C. Singson.
