2 centenarians get P100,000 cash gift in Muntinlupa

Two mothers who reached 100 years old were awarded a P100,000 cash gift each by the Muntinlupa City government. 

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon visited Josefina Santiago of Barangay Alabang and Emilia Tan of Barangay Ayala Alabang for the symbolic awarding of checks worth P100,000 each. 

“Hindi araw-araw ay may pagkakataong makakilala ng isang ina na umabot ng isang siglo ng buhay, kaya I feel so blessed na dalawa pa ang na-meet ko, mula sa Brgy. Ayala Alabang at Brgy. Alabang (It's not every day that you get the chance to meet a mother who has reached a century of life, so I feel so blessed that I met two more, from Brgy. Ayala Alabang and Brgy. Alabang),” the mayor posted on Facebook. 

He said despite that Tan is bedridden and has dementia, “the testament to her longevity and strength is that she was able to outlived 5 out of her 7 children”.

Santiago, on the other hand, has difficulty in hearing and vision but very lively talking to other people. 

“Na-share pa nga niya ang kaniyang birthday wish, which is to live longer at hindi na raw maghirap pa ang lahat ng tao (She even shared her birthday wish, which is to live longer and that everyone will no longer suffer),” said Biazon.

“Hangga’t maaari, gusto kong personal na makilala at makausap ang ating Centenarians. Bibihira na ang umaabot sa edad na 100, kaya para sa akin, privilege ang bawat ganitong pagkakataon. Ito rin ang dahilan kung bakit patuloy nating isinusulong ang mga programang nagbibigay-halaga sa ating mga nakatatanda, dahil ang kanilang kwento ay bahagi na ng kasaysayan ng Muntinlupa (Whenever possible, I want to personally meet and talk to our Centenarians. It's rare to reach the age of 100, so for me, every opportunity like this is a privilege. This is also the reason why we continue to promote programs that value our elders, because their stories are part of the history of Muntinlupa),” he added. 

Residents who reach 100 are eligible to receive the P100,000 cash gift under Muntinlupa City Ordinance No. 2018-147, or “an ordinance granting financial benefits/privileges to centenarians who have reached 100 years old and above living in the City of Muntinlupa amounting to One Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php100,000.00) each which amount shall be taken from the Executive Budget.”
