Magnitude 6.8 quake hits offshore Davao Occidental; no tsunami threat — Phivolcs

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck offshore waters east of Balut Island in Davao Occidental late Saturday night, Jan. 10, but posed no tsunami threat to the Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1 bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 10:58 p.m.
The agency said the tremor was located about 315 kilometers southeast of Balut Island.
The quake had a depth of 10 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, the agency said.

Intensity II – Malungon, and Kiamba, Sarangani; City of Koronadal, and Tupi, South Cotabato; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat
Intensity I – Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Maitum, and Malapatan, Sarangani; Banga, Tampakan, T Boli, Surallah, and Santo Niño, South Cotabato; City of General Santos
The agency said no damage and no aftershocks are expected from the earthquake.
