Chinese woman nabbed for using fake ID while visiting detainee in QC
A 60-year-old Chinese woman was arrested after allegedly presenting a fake driver’s license while visiting a detainee at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) facility in Quezon City.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD)-CIDU Chief Lt. Col. Edison Ouano identified the suspect as “Lu,” a resident of Makati City.
Based on police reports, the incident occurred on Jan. 6, when the woman visited a detainee at the CIDU Custodial Facility.
Upon entry, they said she presented a driver’s license to the duty jailer. However, the jailer noticed irregularities on the document and immediately requested verification from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
On Jan. 8, days after her visit and the verification request, authorities received official certification from the LTO confirming that the driver’s license bearing the name she used and the indicated license number do not exist in the LTO database, as certified by the Chief of the License Section of LTO East Avenue.
On the same day, at around 3:55 p.m., the suspect was arrested after she returned to CIDU and again presented the same driver’s license.
Authorities said the woman will face charges for violation of Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code (Falsification of Public Document) and Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code).
QCPD Acting District Director Col. Randy Glenn Silvio reminded the public that using fake documents is punishable under the law.
“Ang insidenteng ito ay paalala na ang paggamit ng pekeng ID ay may karampatang parusa. Kaya’t pinapaalalahanan namin ang publiko na huwag gumamit ng fake IDs, lalo na sa mga opisyal na transaksyon (This incident serves as a reminder that the use of fake IDs carries corresponding penalties. Authorities remind the public not to use fake identification, especially in official transactions),” Silvio said.
