BACOLOD CITY – The number of vehicular accidents in this highly-urbanized city declined by 12.23 percent or 44 incidents from 360 in 2024 to 316 in 2025.
But the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said cases of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide went up by 11, from 22 in 2024 to 33 in 2025.
Cases of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury also increased by 13 cases from 96 to 109 during the same period.
Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), attributed the rise in serious accidents to reckless driving behaviors such as driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to wear proper safety gear like helmets, road rehabilitation works, poorly lit roads, and motorists’ unfamiliarity with certain routes.
He noted that most homicide-related accidents involved motorcycles.
