Serve with a smile, La Trinidad mayor orders LGU employees
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – In a move to soften the often-stressful experience of government transactions, this capital town now requires its employees to serve the public with a smile.
Mayor Roderick Awingan issued Executive Order 05-2026 on Jan. 6 institutionalizing a "culture of courtesy and joyfulness" for all municipal workers when facing clients.
“In the busy and demanding world of public service, finding joy and happiness can make a big difference on how government work shall be rendered towards the people we seek to serve,” Awingan said on Friday, explaining the order took effect Jan. 7.
He said the simple gesture can create a positive, pleasant environment, citing the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
Resident and business owner Marcelle Tagel, renewing her permits at the municipal hall, welcomed the policy.
“It feels warm and enticing to pay taxes when you see that those who attend to you are wearing a smile,” Tagel said in the vernacular. “The order to wear a smile is a relief for taxpayers like me.”
The executive order directs employees to always smile while serving, strictly prohibits frowning or crankiness, and mandates the "highest degree of patience" even with demanding clients. (PNA)
