Philippine Red Cross assists 100 patients during Feast of the Black Nazarene
PRC deploys over 1,200 staff, volunteers with ambulances, first aid stations, and an emergency field hospital to ensure public safety

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) reported that a total of 100 patients were attended to as of 6 a.m. on Friday, January 9, during the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene, highlighting the organization’s swift medical and welfare response to the massive religious gathering.
Data from the PRC Safety Services and Operations Center showed that of the 100 patients, 58 received vital signs monitoring, 34 were treated for minor cases such as dizziness, minor wounds, abrasions, and sprains, while five required major medical attention for deep lacerations.
Three patients were transported to hospitals, including two to the Philippine General Hospital and one to East Avenue Medical Center.
The PRC Emergency Field Hospital at the Quirino Grandstand (KKK Monument) catered to 15 patients, mostly minor cases, while two were transferred to other hospitals. Patients arrived through walk-ins, PRC ambulances, and other groups.
Currently, 10 patients remain under active care, four have been discharged, and two were transported to other medical facilities.
Welfare and psychosocial support
The PRC also provided welfare assistance to 16 individuals, including 11 receiving psychosocial support, four referred for further care, and one assisted through a free call service.
The organization mobilized more than 1,200 staff and volunteers, operating 17 first aid stations, 10 welfare desks, six foot patrol units, 19 ambulances and three service vehicles, nine medic-on-wheels units, three rescue boats along the Pasig River, one emergency field hospital, and one Humvee for rapid deployment.
