PAGASA: Philippines to remain cyclone-free in the next 2 to 3 days
Three weather systems bring cloudy skies, rain over parts of Luzon, rest of the country

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, January 9, said several weather systems will continue to bring rainy and cool conditions over large parts of Luzon, while no tropical cyclone is expected to form in the coming days.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Loriedin De la Cruz-Galicia said the combined effects of the shear line, northeast monsoon (amihan), and easterlies are currently influencing the country’s weather pattern, causing rains in various parts of the country and cooler conditions across much of Luzon.
“Nagdudulot ito ng maulap na panahon sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon o malamig na panahon sa malaking bahagi ng ating landmass (This brings cloudy weather to much of Luzon or cooler conditions across a large part of our landmass),” De la Cruz-Galicia said.
“Itong mga weather systems na ito ay nagdudulot ng mga pag-ulan sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng ating kalupaan (These weather systems also cause rainfall in various parts of our country),” she added.
PAGASA said no tropical cyclone or low-pressure area (LPA) is being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at present, and that no LPA or storm is expected to develop over the next two to three days.
“Sa ngayon, wala tayong bagyo na mino-monitor sa loob ng ating area of responsibility (At present, we are not monitoring any tropical cyclone within our area of responsibility),” De la Cruz-Galicia said.
“Sa loob ng dalawa hanggang tatlong araw, wala tayong inaasahang mabubuo na LPA o bagyo sa loob ng ating area of responsibility (In the next two to three days, we also do not expect any LPA or tropical cyclone to develop within our area of responsibility),” she added.
Multiple weather systems prevail
PAGASA, in its 24-hour weather outlook, said the shear line is affecting the eastern section of Southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon continues to influence the rest of Luzon. The easterlies, meanwhile, are affecting the rest of the country.
The state weather bureau said the Bicol Region and Northern Samar will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line, with possible flash floods or landslides caused by moderate to at times heavy rains.
The rest of Eastern Visayas may have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, also posing possible risks of flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.
Aurora, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon are forecast to experience cloudy skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon, with possible flooding or landslides in vulnerable areas, PAGASA added.
Meanwhile, PAGASA noted that Metro Manila, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Calabarzon will have cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon, with no significant impacts expected.
The rest of Luzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, while the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, PAGASA said.
Due to these weather systems, PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms and advised the public to remain alert and monitor official weather updates.
