The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) recorded 1,051 devotees hurt or given immediate medical care as the Traslacion procession goes on Friday, Jan. 9.
In its 4:19 tally, the DRRMO responded to 21 major cases, 648 minor cases, 517 cases attended to by Philippine Red Cross (PRC) members, 235 devotees attended to by volunteers, and 299 attended to by the DRRMO.
Officials said they are expecting this number to rise further as the Andas is now nearing San Sebastian Church for the traditional "Dungaw," a historic practice observed between the San Sebastian Basilica and Quiapo Church.
As of 5:54 p.m. more and more devotees continue to approach the image of the Jesus Nazareno along Arlegui Street, forcing the Andas at a standstill.
