Former village watchman shot dead in Ilocos Sur

SANTA MARIA, Ilocos Sur – A 53-year-old former barangay tanod or watchman was allegedly shot dead by his neighbor while tending to his crops in a farm in Barangay Gusing here on Thursday morning, Jan. 8.
Police identified the victim as Gani.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was watering his crops at around 7:30 a.m. when the suspect Ben, 35, appeared and shot him.
Police said a witness three successive gunshots and saw a man sprawled on the ground.
Responding police officers found the victim with a bullet wound in the body.
Gani was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
Police said the suspect fled and surrendered to barangay officials in the afternoon.
The suspect surrendered the gun used in the shooting.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation. He faces appropriate charges.
