'Fake news': Party-list denies involvement in 'Cabral files' issue
The Senior Citizens Party-list has denounced allegations of the group's involvement in the so-called “Cabral Files” saying such information is “fake news.”
“There is no truth to this allegation!” Senior Citizens Party-list Rep. Rodolfo "Ompong" Ordanes stressed.
Ordanes said that he and the group itself was not a beneficiary of the major projects mentioned in the documents that Batangas Rep. Leandro Legarda-Leviste has earlier mentioned.
Legarda-Leviste had said he obtained the documents from the office of the late former Undersecretary Maria Catalina “Cathy” Cabral, who figured largely in the so-called flood control project scandal.
“The information being spread is clearly misleading and has no sufficient basis,” said the vice chairman of the House Senior Citizens Committee.
Ordanes said he is willing and ready to cooperate with an independent investigation on the said issue in the name of accountability.
But he said the search for truth should not be based through the malicious “fake news” and defamation of the persons not involved.
Moreover, Ordanes also urged the public to examine, evaluate and carefully study the information they read.
The lawmaker said he can only hope that the Senior Citizens Party-list group would not be used to divert the real issue.
He also expressed hope that the issue would not be used to shield those who are behind the flood control anomalies.
