Bacolod logs 1,414 crimes in 2025, up 12%

BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported an 11.77 percent increase in total crime incidents in 2025, up 149 cases from 1,265 in 2024 to 1,414 in 2025.
Index crimes or crimes against person or property rose by seven incidents or 3.76 percent from 186 cases in 2024 to 193 in 2025.
Among the eight focus crimes, theft topped with 62 cases, followed by robbery with 29, homicide with 13, physical injuries with 11, and one case each for carnapping of motor vehicle and cybercrime.
Murder cases decreased by 10 from 36 in 2024 to 26 the following year, rape to 40 in 2025 from 52 in 2024, and six carnapping of motorcycles.
Police Lt. Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod police director, in a press briefing on Wednesday, Jan. 7, directed station commanders to address theft and robbery incidents.
He said that most theft cases were shoplifting in malls. "There are opportunists especially when there's an influx of people. When there is economic activity, crime thrives," he said.
He said that non-index crimes, including special law violations, contributed to the increase in crimes due to police-initiated operations against illegal activities.
Non-index crimes went up by 185 or 25.74 percent from 719 cases in 2024 to 904 last year.
Police operations against violators of special laws rose by 175 or 30.27 percent from 578 in 2024 to 753 in 2025 – illegal possession of bladed weapons, illegal cockfighting, illegal gambling, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, illegal drugs, Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, intellectual property code, illegal fishing, and anti-financial account scamming act.
Crime clearance efficiency decreased by 1.95 percent from 99.76 percent to 97.81 percent. This means that suspects were not arrested but cases have been filed.
Crime solution efficiency improved from 90.28 percent to 90.31 percent – suspects have been arrested and cases have been filed.
