ZAMBOANGA CITY – A male infant was found in a grassy lot in Barangay Manicahan here on Thursday, Jan. 8.

Erolyn Jade Perez Barredo, Barangay Manicahan chairperson, said the baby was inside a cardboard box when he was found by a passerby.

The passerby, whose identity was withheld, said he was walking in the area when he heard cries. He discovered the baby with an umbilical cord still attached placed inside the box.

The infant was brought to the local health center and pronounced in good condition. Health personnel said the infant might have been abandoned in the area at dawn last Thursday.

Police are checking closed-circuit television footages in the area to locate the person responsible for abandoning the infant.
