Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., acting chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered a thorough investigation into the murder of a woman whose body was found inside a storage box.
The cadaver was already identified while the suspect, her live-in partner, already surrendered to the police but Nartatez wants to have an airtight case against the perpetrator.
“We express our sincerest condolences to the family of the victim. No person deserves to be treated this way and we in the Philippine National Police commit to ensuring that the person involved is held accountable for this gruesome crime,” said Nartatez.
“My directive to the Camarines Norte Police is to ensure that the suspect is safely transferred to the proper detention facility, and to continue to protect the witnesses and the victim’s family,” he added.
The victim’s body was discovered on January 2 inside a black storage box, wrapped in a blanket, beneath the Pinagwarasan Bridge in Basud, Camarines Norte.
Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the killing but Nartatez assured the public that several leads are already being looked into.
“Be rest assured, we are working diligently to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The PNP is committed to upholding public safety while pursuing justice for the victims,” he said.
The PNP also called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and to refrain from spreading unverified information that may hinder the investigation.
