ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 74-year-old man was shot dead in Mala, Barangay Panubigan, this city, on Wednesday, less than three days after the murder of a truck driver on the MCLL Highway on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Hiya-Hiya Ibrahim Tahil, a resident of the area and a native of Jolo, Sulu.
Investigation said the gunman fled on a red and black motorcycle with a companion. The suspects were wearing black clothes and a bull cap.
Police said the victim sustained multiple bullet wounds and taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
In response to the incident, the Zamboanga City Police Station 2 dispatched a team to the location.
The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has coordinated with all local stations and units to establish checkpoints and implement "Oplan: Sita," a strategy aimed at intercepting and apprehending the suspects.
The truck driver, Muktasul Macrohon, of Barangay Ayala Ecozone here, was shot dead by an unidentified man riding a motorcycle while driving his vehicle to Cebu province.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation on both cases.
