Quiapo Church has announced that the traditional “pahalik” of the image of Jesus Nazarene at Quirino Grandstand will be extended until Saturday, Jan. 10, following an overwhelming turnout of devotees.
According to Rector and Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ramon Jade Licuanan, the extension is intended to accommodate the continued influx of faithful who wish to approach and touch the image.
“Because today is Friday and we expect even more devotees, it was decided to extend the pahalik,” Fr. Licuanan said.
He clarified that the extension does not affect the schedule of the Traslacion, which will proceed as planned, with all programs and procession routes maintained.
They said that a replica of the image remains at the Grandstand altar, while the Vicario is already prepared on the Andas, following the same arrangements as last year.
Church officials are now preparing updated crowd estimates to ensure proper coordination with city authorities and safety personnel.
The pahalik tradition allows devotees to express their devotion through touching or kissing the image of Jesus Nazarene, a practice that draws thousands each year ahead of the annual Traslacion on Jan. 9.
