PIGGATAN detour bridge
DAGUPAN CITY – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Department of Public Works and Highways officials inspected the newly opened Piggatan detour bridge in Alcala, Cagayan on Thursday morning, Jan. 8.
Marcos was accompanied by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, Cagayan Gov. Edgar Aglipay, Alcala Mayor Cristina Antonio, and DPWH-Region 2 Director Mathias Malenab, among others.
The detour bridge was opened to the public on Dec. 19 after two months of construction. It serves as an alternative route following the collapse of the 45-year-old Piggatan Bridge in October.
With a 40-ton load capacity, the bridge was funded by the DPWH for P19.08 million and is crucial in preventing delays in the transport of agricultural products.
Authorities vowed construction of a permanent bridge
soon.
The inspection was conducted to ensure the safety and efficiency of the vital infrastructure project serving the province.
Meanwhile, Marcos led the opening of the 2026 Cagayan Provincial Athletic Association (CPAA) meet in Camalaniugan with Aglipay and other officials. Camalaniugan under Mayor Isidro Cabaddu is the host this year.
The President encouraged competing athletes from all over the province to uphold sportsmanship, unity, and excellence in competition.
