PAOAY, Ilocos Norte – A 40-year-old farmer who served as a bodyguard of a mayoral candidate in this town was killed in an ambush on Wednesday night, police said.
The victim – Boy, a resident of Barangay 5, Nalasin – was driving his motorcycle near a gasoline station in Barangay 2, San Roque when an unidentified gunman opened fire.
He was taken to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City, Ilocos Norte where he was declared dead due to multiple bullet wounds.
Police said the victim was reportedly a drug surrenderer and was a personal bodyguard and driver of Bobby Diaz, a losing mayoral candidate in the 2025 elections. Diaz is a close friend and high school batchmate of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation and manhunt operations.
