Devotees camp overnight at Luneta ahead of Traslacion 2026
Some devotees said they were waiting for the morning Misa Mayor, others for the start of the Traslacion, and still others for the chance to participate in the traditional “pahalik” of the image.
“Hindi na kami makakapasok bukas sa dami ng tao (We won’t be able to get in tomorrow because of the large crowd),” said Joshua, 43, explaining why he decided to sleep on the street near Quirino Grandstand.
“Bumyahe na kami ngayon pa lang, kaysa mapagod bukas (We decided to travel tonight instead, so we won’t get exhausted tomorrow),” he added. He said that every year they travel the night before the Traslacion to secure their spot.
Authorities, including the Manila Police District and church marshals, are monitoring the crowds, providing water stations, first aid, and portable toilets, and reminding devotees to observe safety measures.
