DepEd mourns death of Muntinlupa teacher, offers support to school community

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday, January 8, extended its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues, and learners of Teacher Agnes Buenaflor of Pedro E. Diaz High School in Muntinlupa City following her untimely passing.
In an official statement released by DepEd Chief Media Relations Officer Dennis E. Legaspi, the agency described Buenaflor as a “dedicated educator” and affirmed its solidarity with the school community during this period of grief.
“We mourn the loss of a dedicated educator and stand in solidarity with the school community during this time of grief,” DepEd said.
DepEd, through the Schools Division Office, said it is closely coordinating with the school and the family to provide immediate assistance, including psychosocial support for affected learners and personnel.
Moreover, the department emphasized that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and respectfully requested the public to refrain from sharing unverified or speculative information out of consideration for the family and those affected.
“The Department is looking into what happened and respectfully asks the public to avoid spreading unverified or speculative information, out of respect for the family and all those affected,” the agency said.
DepEd also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, compassion, and the welfare of teachers and learners.
Teacher groups have previously highlighted the need for reforms to ensure the safety, mental health, and well-being of educators nationwide.
