The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, January 8, said cloudy skies and rains will continue to affect large parts of the Philippines due to three weather systems.
In its latest weather forecast, PAGASA said a shear line is influencing Southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon (amihan) prevails over the rest of Luzon, and the easterlies are affecting the rest of the country.
PAGASA said the shear line is bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
These areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall, raising the risk of flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous communities.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is affecting the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora, where residents can expect cloudy skies with light rains. No significant weather impacts are anticipated in these areas.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will also be under the influence of the amihan, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated light rains. PAGASA said no major impacts are expected.
For the rest of the country, PAGASA said the easterlies are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. However, severe thunderstorms could still trigger possible flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.
The state weather bureau advised the public to stay alert for weather updates and take necessary precautions, particularly in regions prone to flooding and landslides during periods of heavy rainfall.
