Members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) recovered two hand grenades on Tuesday night, Jan. 6, after a resident reported a suspicious object outside a home in Barangay Old Balara.
Personnel from Batasan Police Station 6 responded to a call made through QC Helpline 122 at around 6:25 p.m.
Police said a female resident was uprooting plants in front of her house on Samadores Street, Luzon Avenue, when she discovered an object wrapped in a white sock.
Upon opening it, she found what appeared to be hand grenade fragments and immediately sought police assistance.
Responding officers, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Aljun Belista, secured the area and coordinated with the QCPD District Explosive and Canine Unit (DECU).
The team recovered two NK2 high-explosive hand grenade fragments and declared the area safe after a thorough inspection. No injuries were reported.
“The quick action and vigilance of the reporting citizen greatly contributed in preventing potential harm,” PBGEN Randy Glenn Silvio said.
He also urged the public to immediately report suspicious objects or activities to authorities through QC Helpline 122 or the E911 emergency hotline.
An investigation is ongoing to determine how the hand grenade fragments ended up in the residential area.
