A Nigerian was stabbed to death by two men during an alleged extortion attempt in Las Piñas City early Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Las Piñas City Police chief Col. Sandro Tafalla said the victim, about 30 to 40 years old, sustained a stab wound in the left side of the body. He died while undergoing treatment at Las Piñas District Hospital.
The incident occurred at around 3:45 a.m. in Basa Village, Barangay Zapote.
Tafalla said one of the suspects, identified only as Jayon, 42, was arrested. The second suspect, known by the alias “Lu Long,” managed to escape and is currently the subject of a manhunt.
Police investigation revealed that the victim was confronted by the two suspects, who allegedly demanded money from him. When the victim refused, a struggle ensued, prompting the suspects to stab him.
Despite his injury, the victim reportedly attempted to chase the suspects, but he collapsed. Bystanders assisted him and brought him to the hospital.
The arrested suspect is currently detained at the Las Piñas City Police custodial facility and has been charged with homicide.
Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo condemned the killing and assured the public of sustained police action.
“We strongly condemn this violent act. While one suspect is now in custody through the swift response of our personnel and the cooperation of the community, our pursuit continues. We will ensure that all those responsible are brought before the law and held fully accountable,” Arceo said.
