Mayor in Maguindanao del Norte bans alcohol sales, drinking

COTABATO CITY – The mayor of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte enforced a strict ban on the sale, display, and drinking of alcoholic beverages in the town on Wednesday, fulfilling a campaign promise.
“Bawal ang alak at inuming nakakalasing sa Datu Odin Sinsuat (Alcohol and intoxicating drinks are prohibited in Datu Odin Sinsuat),” Mayor Baba Abas told vendors during a visit to the public market.
He said the prohibition aligns with Islamic teachings. Vendors were allowed a final chance to return their stock to dealers, but future violations will lead to confiscation and penalties.
“This is my election campaign promise: Alcohol is against Islam, and it is prohibited in Datu Odin Sinsuat,” Abas added.
The mayor is set to issue a formal executive order to cement the ban across the town. (PNA)
