LAMASAN and Remulla
ILOILO CITY – Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla dispelled rumors linking the death of Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan to the flood control scandal.
“It is fair to conclude it was death by accident,” said Remulla on Wednesday, Jan. 7, after attending the necrological service for Lamasan.
“Maraming conspiracy theorists diyan. Maraming bloggers nag posts mga fake news diyan (There are many conspiracy theorists. Many bloggers post fake news),” said Remulla in a press conference.
Remulla did not mention by name but suspended Cavite fourth district Rep. Kiko Barzaga released a video statement last Jan. 2 linking Lamasan’s death to the flood control scandal.
In a 50-second video, Barzaga alluded Lamasan had ties to key personalities of Iloilo province, including Senior Deputy Majority Leader Lorenz Defensor of the Iloilo third district and Rep. Janette Garin of the Iloilo first district and daughter Provincial Board Member Rica Jane Garin.
“The vice mayor was not involved in any way to the flood control. She’s not involved in the municipal projects. There’s no political angle,” emphasized Remulla.
Remulla was joined during the press conference with the Iloilo Police and Defense Press Corps at the Iloilo Airport by Philippine National Police chief Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Police Major Gen. Robert Morico II, and Police Regional Office-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan.
