Fire-affected families in Barangay Potrero receive financial aid from Malabon LGU

Families affected by a residential fire in Barangay Potrero received financial assistance from the Malabon City government to help them recover from the incident that occurred on Jan. 4.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, together with the City Social Welfare and Development Department, led the distribution of cash assistance to 64 families, or around 190 individuals, whose homes along Juliana Street were damaged by the fire.
According to the city’s Public Information Office, the local government provided P10,000 each to 16 owners of burned houses, P5,000 to 40 families whose houses were totally damaged, and P3,000 to eight families whose homes were partially damaged.
The distribution was held at Potrero Elementary School, where affected families temporarily stayed after the fire.
Prior to the release of cash aid, the city government provided food packs containing rice, canned goods, coffee, and noodles.
Affected residents also received hot meals, water containers, and hygiene kits.
The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office deployed Mobile Jeannie Services, including a mobile shower facility, to assist displaced residents.
Meanwhile, the City Health Department conducted medical checkups and provided basic treatment on site.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire started at around 12:22 a.m. on Jan. 4 and reached the second alarm at 12:36 a.m.
It was declared extinguished at around 4:51 a.m.
City Administrator Alexander Rosete reminded residents to remain vigilant and strictly observe fire safety measures, especially in densely populated areas.

The local government said it will continue to support affected families and further strengthen disaster response efforts in the city.
