Cordillera cops nab 1,700 wanted persons in 2025
BAGUIO CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera said its intensified anti-criminality campaign resulted in the arrest of 1,744 wanted persons in 2025.
Citing its latest data on Wednesday, PRO-Cordillera Director Police Brig. Gen. Erickson Dilag said the figure includes 354 most wanted persons – 64 on the regional level, 155 on the provincial level, and 135 on the municipal level.
The Baguio City police recorded the highest number of arrests with 627 apprehended individuals, followed by the Benguet police with 480; Abra police and Kalinga police, 155 each; Ifugao police, 121; Apayao police, 102; Mountain Province police, 97; and the regional headquarters, seven.
“The success of the operations was not only due to the dedication and relentless efforts of PRO-Cordillera personnel, but also to the strong support and cooperation of communities, barangay officials, and local stakeholders," Dilag said in an interview.
He encouraged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and continue strengthening partnerships with law enforcement authorities.
“Timely information-sharing and active collaboration played a crucial role in the tracking and arrest of wanted individuals," he added.
Baguio destroys illegal firecrackers
Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the destruction of 14,362 confiscated firecrackers here on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
These were valued at P120,985 and recovered by the Baguio City Police Office from Dec. 23 to Jan. 6.
The City Health Services Office said four individuals were injured due to firecrackers here.
The Department of Health recorded 45 individuals injured due to firecrackers in the Cordillera region.
Magalong mandated the strict implementation of the ordinance against illegal firecrackers. He ordered barangay officials and station chiefs of police to explain why there are illegal firecrackers in their jurisdictions.
