Marcos declares Jan. 9 as special non-working day in Manila

President Marcos has declared Jan. 9 as a special non-working day in the city of Manila for the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
Through Proclamation No. 1126, Marcos declared Jan. 9, which falls on Friday, as a special non-working day in the city where millions of devotees are expected to flock to join the Traslacion.
"[I]n order to ensure orderly procession of devotees and to facilitate the flow of traffic, the City of Manila requests that Friday, 09 January 2026 be declared
a special (non-working) day," the proclamation read.
It recognized that millions of devotees will be flocking the Quiapo Church for the annual feast.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, with the authority of the President, signed the proclamation on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
The Feast of the Black Nazarene is an annual religious festival celebrated in the country.
In Manila and other parts of the country, a mass procession of the image of the Black Nazarene is being done during the feast.
