The refiling of an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte is not being discussed in the meetings of President Marcos, Malacañang said.
"Sa kasalukuyan ay wala pong napag-uusapan sa anumang meeting na patungkol sa impeachment laban kay Bise Presidente (At present, there are no discussions in any meetings regarding impeachment against the Vice President)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Castro also reiterated that the filing of an impeachment complaint by any group is not under the President’s jurisdiction.
But the President, she further said, stands by his position that "those who should be held accountable must be held accountable."
"Hindi po magkakaroon ng pagkakaisa kung may naiiwang isyu na dapat na sagutin. So, sa ngayon, muli hindi po sakop ng Pangulo kung sinuman po ang magsasampa ng impeachment complaint laban sa Bise Presidente (There can be no unity if issues that need to be addressed are left unresolved. So, for now, once again, it is not within the President’s authority if anyone files an impeachment complaint against the Vice President)," Castro said.
While the impeachment case against Duterte did not proceed to trial last year, the Palace official does not believe it failed.
"On our part, we cannot say that is a failure impeachment. There’s still an ongoing… pending case before the Supreme Court," Castro said.
Castro added that whatever happens regarding the impeachment, it would be under the jurisdiction of Congress, and whoever files the case, the President will not interfere.
"[K]ung sinuman po ang magsasampa ng kaso na iyan ay hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo. But, muli uulit-ulitin natin, ang Pangulo po ang nais po niya, managot ang dapat na managot (Whoever files the case, the President will not interfere. But, let us repeat once more, what the President wants is for those who should be held accountable to be held accountable)," Castro said.
