Ex-soldier hacks septuagenarian to death in Cagayan

BUGUEY, Cagayan – A 77-year-old man was hacked to death by a former soldier in Barangay Mala Weste, Buguey, Cagayan on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 4.
Police identified the victim as Dencio.
Investigation said the suspect Juan allegedly hacked the victim using an approximately 18-inch bolo multiple times in the head and body until he collapsed.
A concerned citizen reported the incident to the Buguey Police Station. Responding police officers found the body of the victim.
The suspect fled on a motorcycle and was arrested during a follow-up operation in his residence.
Police recovered the bolo used in the attack.
The suspect was a soldier who went Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) and has a warrant of arrest for rape case which was served when he was apprehended.
He is detained at the Buguey Police Station and facing a murder charge. Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
