The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, January 6, announced that it has raised a Code White Alert as part of its preparations for the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene, which is expected to draw millions of devotees.
The alert was activated three days before the Traslacion and will remain in effect until January 10 to ensure the readiness of health facilities and emergency responders during one of the country’s largest annual religious events.
The DOH said more than 200 emergency personnel are on standby and ready for deployment to 20 DOH health emergency response stations that will be strategically positioned along the Traslacion route on the day of the procession.
In addition, 20 DOH-run hospitals across Metro Manila have been placed on alert to respond to patients who may require immediate medical attention, including cases of heat exhaustion, injuries, dehydration, and other health emergencies.
DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa also reminded devotees planning to participate in the Traslacion to take extra precautions, particularly those with existing medical conditions.
The DOH urged devotees to take their maintenance medicines and bring prescribed drugs with them, stressing the importance of personal preparedness during long hours of walking and exposure to large crowds.
The agency reiterated its call for devotees to stay hydrated, rest when necessary, and immediately seek medical assistance at designated health stations if they feel unwell, emphasizing that public safety remains a top priority during the Traslacion.
The annual Traslacion commemorates the transfer of the image of the Black Nazarene from Intramuros to Quiapo Church and is considered one of the largest religious gatherings in the Philippines.
